We can still hope that Walmart corporation heeds the advice of Arvada residents and decides that Arvada Plaza is truly not a good fit for a Supercenter. The word is getting around and the determination is serious: We Won't Shop Arvada Walmart!
Walmart simply is not the kind of business that meets Arvada values. Already good local independent shops have been run-out of town because the government know-it-alls have given away $5.8 million to Walmart's developer. That's not an Arvada value either: the corporate socialism favored by the city council and the Arvada Urban Renewal Authority.
Increasingly citizens are seeing how Walmart is not a very good corporate citizen because of it eagerness to take tax subsidies and to keep wages so low that its employees have to rely on government assistance to make ends meet (another form of subisidy). What a black mark on Arvada's reputation if Walmart comes to our true blue American community.
Arvadans value free enterprise without government picking winners-and-loser and good wages for workers.
The following article explains why Walmart is not an Arvada kind of undertaking.
10 Worst Things Walmart Did in 2014 | Alyssa Figueroa/AlterNet.org
"From mistreating pregnant workers to illegally disciplining workers fighting for change, Walmart has stooped to dismal lows in 2014. In its hunt for endless profit, the world’s largest private employer continues to do everything in its power to squeeze workers and silence those who speak out. Fortunately, a growing number of workers are standing up through OUR Walmart, a community of former and current workers pushing for better labor conditions. Worker power is scaring Walmart into taking some of the most ruthless and chilling actions we've witnessed to date. Here are the top 10 of 2014."
